Miles Kelly’s record-setting 3-point shooting fuels Auburn basketball to SEC championship

AUBURN, AL – Auburn men’s basketball made history on Saturday with a 94-78 victory over Kentucky at Rupp Arena. The last time head coach Bruce Pearl won in that venue was 19 years ago when Chris Lofton led Tennessee to a win. This time, it was senior guard Miles Kelly who stole the show with a 30-point explosion, making nine 3-pointers.

Kelly’s hot shooting sparked the Tigers’ offense, especially as star player Johni Broome struggled and starting point guard Denver Jones left the game due to injury. Kelly’s performance, along with help from Tahaad Pettiford and Chad Baker-Mazara, was crucial for Auburn’s success.

Head coach Bruce Pearl praised the team’s culture and chemistry for stepping up in the face of adversity. Kelly’s 30-point game surpassed his season-high and tied for the second-highest scoring game of his career. His nine 3-pointers set a new career high.

Pearl emphasized the importance of special shooting performances to win in a tough environment like Rupp Arena, and Kelly delivered on that front. Auburn’s backcourt depth was on full display, showcasing the team’s talent and resilience.

The victory marks a significant milestone for the program, securing Auburn’s first win at Rupp Arena in 37 years. Kelly’s outstanding performance will be remembered as a key factor in this historic win for the Tigers.
