Honor and Remembrance: Trussville Memorial Day Weekend Commemorates Fallen Heroes
TRUSSVILLE, Ala. – This Memorial Day weekend, Trussville pays tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country at the Alabama Fallen Warriors monument in Veterans Park. This memorial honors the 227 military service members who lost their lives during the global War on Terror.
Crafted by retired Marine Colonel Lee Busby and Navy veteran Mark Davis, the monument features several bronze busts of fallen soldiers, serving as a poignant reminder of their bravery. Since the park’s dedication two years ago, it has become a sanctuary for reflection and homage, where visitors can walk among heroes. “We all have sacrificed, and it’s crucial for people to recognize these sacrifices and honor our servicemen and women,” Davis emphasized.
In addition to honoring past heroes, Davis and his committee are actively fundraising to create a bust for Army Major Dwayne Williams, who was tragically killed during the September 11 attacks in 2001. Williams, a distinguished Army Ranger and paratrooper who served in the Gulf War, was stationed at the Pentagon merely two months before the attack.
The community is invited to join a Memorial Day service at the monument on Monday at 11 a.m., located just off Parkway Drive in Trussville.
For more information on the monument and details on how to contribute, individuals can contact the Trussville Veterans Committee at trussvillevetcommittee@outlook.com. The community’s support is essential in honoring these heroes, ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten.
