Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. and his wife, La’Quetta Small, have been indicted on charges related to the alleged abuse of their teenage daughter. Prosecutors accuse the couple of physically and emotionally abusing the girl on multiple occasions when she was 15 and 16 years old. The alleged abuse occurred between December 2023 and January. One incident describes the mayor hitting his daughter in the head with a broom, causing her to lose consciousness. Another incident involved threats and physical violence directed at the girl. La’Quetta Small, who is the superintendent of Atlantic City Public Schools, is also accused of hitting her daughter on multiple occasions. The abuse allegations came to light after the daughter disclosed them to a high school employee, prompting an investigation. The girl’s boyfriend provided investigators with video evidence showing injuries such as scratches, swelling, bruises, and hair loss on the victim. Furthermore, medical records showed that the girl was admitted to the hospital for a head injury that she claimed was caused by hitting a window while playing with her brother. Mayor Small was present and reportedly corroborated this story to hospital staff. Both Small Sr. and La’Quetta Small maintain their innocence and deny any wrongdoing, with their attorney stating that the allegations are a private family matter. The Atlantic City Public Schools did not immediately respond to inquiries about the matter.
