Man Arrested for Stealing DHS Chief Kristi Noem’s Purse Lacking Legal Status in the U.S., Official Reports

A suspect arrested for stealing Secretary Kristi Noem’s purse is in the U.S. illegally, according to U.S. Attorney Ed Martin. A second suspect, also illegal, is being pursued by authorities. Martin clarified that there is no evidence suggesting the theft was targeted due to Noem’s position as Secretary of Homeland Security; it appears to have been motivated by the purse’s appearance.

Martin noted that the theft was executed by someone with experience, as the suspect appeared to have scouted the area beforehand. He commented that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is involved, adhering to former President Trump’s directive to prosecute and deport illegal immigrants apprehended for crimes.

Noem’s stolen purse contained $3,000 in cash, her DHS access badge, passport, credit cards, blank checks, keys, and her driver’s license. The theft occurred at Capital Burger in Washington, D.C., where a masked man discreetly approached Noem’s table. Despite being in close proximity to two plainclothes Secret Service officers, he managed to drag the purse towards himself and leave the restaurant undetected.

The incident is under investigation by D.C. Metropolitan Police and the U.S. Secret Service. When approached for comments at the White House Easter Egg Roll, Noem refrained from discussing the theft, indicating the situation is still unfolding. The Secret Service also declined to provide details, citing operational security concerns.
