LSU Secures Victory Over Arkansas in SEC Showdown at College World Series
Omaha, NE – In a fierce opening matchup of the College World Series, LSU triumphed over Arkansas, marking a notable shift for the SEC as the two teams represented the only conference schools this season. Saturday’s clash saw LSU advance to the winner’s bracket while Arkansas faced an elimination game.
The highly anticipated game turned into a challenging outing for Arkansas starting pitcher Zach Root, who lasted only 1.2 innings after allowing three runs in the second inning, with five consecutive LSU batters reaching base. Razorbacks head coach Dave Van Horn quickly turned to Gabe Gaeckle, who effectively stifled the Tigers’ offense over the next six innings, striking out 10 batters and allowing just one earned run.
Meanwhile, LSU’s ace, Kade Anderson, showcased a masterful performance, pitching seven innings and yielding only one run, a solo home run by Reese Robinett in the sixth. Anderson effectively limited Arkansas to three hits and two walks, striking out seven batters before being replaced by Chase Shores in the eighth. Shores continued the momentum by striking out two batters to maintain the lead.
Offensively, LSU’s Steven Milam led the charge with two hits, including a double. Derek Curiel, Chris Stanfield, Michael Braswell III, and Josh Pearson contributed crucial RBIs. Arkansas, however, struggled at the plate, ending the game with a disappointing 4-for-29 performance and ten strikeouts.
As the College World Series continues, LSU now faces UCLA on Monday night, while Arkansas must regroup for an elimination game against Murray State. The stakes are high as both teams vie for a shot at the championship title.
