Rosario Thomas Named Alabama’s Veteran of the Year
Southern Union State Community College proudly announces that Rosario Thomas has been selected as Alabama’s Veteran of the Year for 2025. A distinguished Army veteran, Thomas currently serves as the Veteran’s Specialist at the college, where he plays a crucial role in supporting fellow veterans as they transition to academic life.
Thomas’s journey began when he enlisted in the Army straight out of high school. His military service deeply shaped his life, but it was not until after his retirement that he turned his attention to higher education. After experiencing challenges in navigating his military benefits, he found inspiration in the very advisors who helped him succeed in college. This pivotal experience ignited his passion for assisting other veterans through similar transitions.
“For most veterans, all we need is somebody that listens to us,” said Thomas. “I give them an ear. I provide guidance to help them be more successful.” His empathetic approach not only provides emotional support but also practical advice that empowers veterans to leverage their educational benefits effectively.
As part of this recognition, Thomas is also in the running for national Veteran of the Year. Online voting is currently open until July 4, with the winner set to be announced on September 11. Thomas’s commitment to advocating for veterans underscores the importance of community support and highlights the positive impact dedicated professionals can have on the lives of military personnel returning to civilian life.
Southern Union State Community College expresses its pride in Thomas’s achievement and his ongoing dedication to uplifting the veteran community.
