A man suspected of making a second assassination attempt on Donald Trump last week has acknowledged that was his intention in a note discovered by police, according to prosecutors. Ryan Wesley Routh wrote in the note that it was an assassination attempt but acknowledged that he had failed. The note was included in a package he gave to an unnamed witness before his arrest. This revelation comes as Routh faces charges related to the attempted attack on Trump, which was foiled by a Secret Service agent at a golf course in Florida.
In another development, a group of over 700 former military and national security officials have released an open letter endorsing Kamala Harris over Donald Trump. They argue that Trump is unfit to be Commander-in-Chief, pointing to his threats against democratic systems and undermining faith in elections.
This endorsement comes as Trump continues to campaign, with a rally scheduled in Mint Hill, North Carolina. The former president has also faced backlash over lewd and offensive statements made by a Republican candidate he endorsed for governor in North Carolina.
Meanwhile, FBI agents have uncovered new details about Routh’s motivations, including a book he authored in which he took blame for electing a president that he considered “brainless” and discussed an assassination attempt on Trump. Prosecutors also revealed that Routh had left a box with ammunition and supplies at a witness’s house months prior to the attempt on Trump’s life.
