ParalympicsGB had a remarkable day, achieving their best performance of the century with multiple gold medals. Sabrina Fortune broke her own world record in shot put – F20, winning gold. Grace Harvey won gold in the women’s 100m breaststroke – SB5, and Hannah Cockroft secured gold in the women’s 100m – T34 event. Maisie Summers-Newton also won gold, setting a Paralympic record in the women’s SB6 100m breaststroke final.
In the pool, Brock Whiston and Alice Tai won gold and bronze respectively in the women’s SM8 200m individual medley. The trio of Kadeena Cox, Jaco van Gass, and Jody Cundy won gold in the C1-5 750m team sprint for Para-cycling. James Ball and pilot Steffan Lloyd secured gold in the men’s B 1000m time trial, with Neil Fachie and Matthew Rotherham winning silver.
The para-rowing team also had a successful morning, with Benjamin Pritchard, Gregg Stevenson, Lauren Rowles, Annie Caddick, Sam Murray, Frankie Allen, Josh O’Brien, Giedrė Rakauskaitė, Ed Fuller, and Erin Kennedy winning multiple medals.
Despite challenges such as weather affecting the para-triathlon events, ParalympicsGB showed resilience and determination, continuing to excel and secure medals across various disciplines. The team’s impressive performance has solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with at the Paralympic Games.
