Linnie Patrick, Former Alabama running back, celebrated as Jasper’s own Bo Jackson

Former Alabama running back Linnie Patrick passed away, confirmed through various sources including statements from his family and high school alma mater. Patrick, who played for the Crimson Tide from 1980-83, was a standout star at Walker High School in Jasper in the late 1970s.

While at Alabama, Patrick rushed for 1,463 yards and 16 touchdowns in 40 games. Despite high expectations, his college career did not meet the predicted success. One of his most memorable moments came during the 1981 Iron Bowl with two key runs in the fourth quarter to help secure a victory for Alabama.

Patrick’s career was marked by clashes with legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant and off-field incidents. His talent and potential were widely recognized, but conflicts and personal struggles hindered his success at the college level. Patrick went on to play for the USFL’s Michigan Panthers in 1984 but did not make it to the NFL.

Patrick remained a revered figure in the Jasper community, where he continued to be admired for his athletic prowess. Despite the challenges he faced, those who knew him remember him as a talented player who had the potential for even greater success. Patrick’s passing has left a void in the local sports community, with many expressing condolences and fond memories of the charismatic running back.
