Controversial Candidate Rachel Homolak Announces Run for Madison City Council

Madison, AL – Rachel Homolak, a figure known for her aggressive challenges to library book selections, has announced her candidacy for the District 4 seat on the Madison City Council. Currently held by two-term incumbent Greg Shaw, the seat is now at the center of Homolak’s contentious campaign.

Homolak has gained notoriety in both Alabama and Missouri for her confrontational approach to educational materials she deems inappropriate. Most recently, she clashed with Vicki Hereford, a member of the Athens-Limestone Public Library Board, over an email that contained images from the youth sex education book “Let’s Talk About It.” Hereford responded by condemning the email’s content as “disgusting pornographic material” and warned Homolak to cease further communication, labeling it harassment.

Advocates for library freedom have identified Homolak as a leading voice in North Alabama pushing for the removal of certain titles from public libraries. In her previous campaign efforts in Missouri, Homolak targeted a transgender librarian, Danny Roberson, whom she accused of endangering children. Roberson has since initiated a defamation lawsuit against Homolak.

In her campaign for Madison’s city council, Homolak has suggested withholding library funding unless materials deemed inappropriate for minors are removed—an idea that met with unanimous rejection by the council.

Recently, she praised the decision of the Madison Utilities Board to eliminate fluoride from the city’s water supply, emphasizing citizen choice in health matters.

As the campaign unfolds, Homolak’s approach continues to resonate with some constituents, promising to ignite further debates in the local community regarding educational content and parental rights.
