Alabama Lawmaker Rhett Marques Launches Bid for Congressional Seat with Key Endorsement
Enterprise, AL – State Rep. Rhett Marques, a Republican from the Wiregrass, officially announced his candidacy for Alabama’s 1st congressional district on Thursday. His campaign received a significant endorsement from Republican U.S. Senator Katie Britt, who contributed $10,000 from her Alabama First political action committee – the maximum allowed for PAC contributions.
Britt praised Marques as a "great friend" and a "strong conservative fighter" who aligns with her and former President Trump’s values. She highlighted his deep roots in the community, noting, "Having been born and raised in Baldwin County and then having raised his own family in the Wiregrass, Rhett is uniquely positioned to champion the priorities and values of this incredible district."
Expressing his gratitude, Marques stated, "I am honored to have Senator Katie Britt’s support. I look forward to working with her in Washington, D.C., to pass President Trump’s agenda."
Marques first entered the Alabama legislature in 2018 and secured re-election with over 65% of the vote in the 2022 GOP primary. He aims to fill the vacancy left by Rep. Barry Moore, who is vying for Tommy Tuberville’s U.S. Senate seat as Tuberville runs for governor.
Marques’ announcement coincides with former U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl’s intention to re-enter the race for the congressional seat, following his loss to Moore in the 2024 primaries after redistricting changes. Additionally, Joshua McKee, a Bronze Star recipient and Army Special Forces veteran, is also running in the Republican primary, which is set for May 19, 2026.
With the primary landscape heating up, Marques’ campaign gains momentum as he seeks to establish himself as a front-runner in the race.
