Justin Spring Claims Emmy for NBC’s Paris Olympics Coverage

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Justin Spring, associate head coach of Alabama gymnastics, has achieved a remarkable milestone by receiving an Emmy Award as part of NBC’s broadcast team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Recognized for his role as an event analyst during the men’s gymnastics competition, Spring was honored in the Outstanding Live Special – Championship Event category. His analysis contributed to the U.S. men’s team’s success in winning a bronze medal, marking their first Olympic medal in this discipline since Spring’s own bronze finish as a competitor in 2008.

In addition to Spring, former Alabama gymnasts Luisa Blanco and Shallon Olsen, who both competed for Colombia and Canada respectively, were also part of the Olympic festivities. They were coached by Spring during his inaugural year at Alabama in 2023.

Expressing his gratitude, Spring stated, "What an unexpected honor to win an Emmy for something that felt like such a privilege in my life! Commentating on the Olympic Games was a dream come true. This award is so deserving for all the producers, researchers, and the whole NBC team that made the experience amazing and unforgettable for our country!"

Spring’s coaching peer praised his unique ability to engage audiences, saying, "He doesn’t just share the sport; he brings it to life. His storytelling approach makes you feel part of the journey, instilling a sense of belief in something greater. I couldn’t be prouder of him for earning this well-deserved honor."

This accolade not only highlights Spring’s talents on the broadcast stage but also celebrates the Alabama gymnastics program’s significant presence on the international arena, reinforcing its commitment to excellence in sports.
