Jury Listens to Emotional Admission from Birmingham Man Charged with Shooting His Son’s Mother: ‘I Just Lost Control’

Jefferson County Jury Hears Emotional Confession in Capital Murder Case

In a gripping trial that captivated the courtroom, jurors in Jefferson County watched a taped confession from Arkeem Marshall, a 33-year-old man charged with the capital murder of TiMira Pullom, 28, in September 2023. The confession was shown during the trial’s final day before Circuit Judge Shanta Owens.

Marshall, visibly emotional, asked detectives Ronald Davenport and Jonathan Ross if Pullom was dead after the shooting, which had occurred during a heated argument over his impending eviction from her home. Their 17-month-old son, Trenton, was in the house at the time of the incident, heightening the severity of the charges against Marshall, who is facing the death penalty.

While Marshall’s defense team admits that he shot Pullom, they argue for a lesser charge, asserting that Trenton was asleep during the incident and unaware of the chaos. According to prior testimony, Pullom had called her mother after being shot, stating, “Arkeem shot me,” before later succumbing to her injuries.

Officers were dispatched to Pullom’s residence shortly after midnight on Sunday, discovering her unresponsive and noting that Trenton was unharmed in another room. The shooting occurred around 11:24 PM the previous evening. Marshall, who has been held without bond since his arrest, later took his 2-year-old daughter to safety and contacted both the police and his family, expressing regret for the incident in a text message.

As the trial unfolds, closing arguments from both the prosecution and defense will be presented before the jury begins deliberations on Thursday. The case has drawn significant attention due to its tragic circumstances and the potential implications for Marshall’s future.
