Johnny Manziel Optimistic About Texas A&M’s 2025 College Football Playoff Chances
Atlanta, GA – Johnny Manziel is eyeing 2025 as a pivotal year for Texas A&M, hoping it could be the season the Aggies make their first College Football Playoff appearance, especially in light of Texas’ recent semifinal success. A key player in this pursuit may be quarterback Marcel Reed, who stepped into the starting role late last season after taking over from Conner Weigman. Unfortunately, Reed’s initial stint was marred by a lack of success, as the Aggies lost four of their last five games.
Going into 2025, Reed will be the established starter, a position that may greatly enhance his development compared to last year’s sporadic play. Manziel shared insights from a recent conversation with Reed on the “Pat McAfee Show,” where he provided guidance and support.
“We had a 20 to 30-minute call… just really trying to give him some tips and see how he’s feeling being under center, knowing that you’re going to be the guy,” Manziel said.
Manziel emphasized the importance of having a full offseason to build confidence and skills, which he believes will significantly benefit Reed. "Getting the reps week in and week out will help him tremendously," he added.
Reed’s dual-threat capability is also a significant asset; he rushed for 588 yards and eight touchdowns in 2024. Manziel praised Reed’s dynamic abilities demonstrated during last year’s matchup against LSU, suggesting that although defenses might prepare for his running, Reed will need to elevate his passing game to truly excel.
As the 2025 season approaches, optimism is brewing around Texas A&M football, with hopes that Reed can lead the Aggies to new heights.
