Attorney John Russell announced his candidacy for the district judge seat in Pickens County, running as a Republican in the upcoming primary elections on May 26, 2026. Russell, a lifelong resident of Pickens County, has over 20 years of legal experience and expressed his readiness to serve the community in a fair and unbiased manner.
With a family history deeply rooted in the local law community, Russell’s father, John Russell III, established a law practice in Aliceville in 1978, where Russell later joined him in 2004. Russell has also served as the City Prosecutor and Attorney for the City of Aliceville for over 35 years, providing him with the necessary knowledge and insight to effectively fulfill the role of District Judge.
A graduate of the University of Alabama in business management and the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, Russell is married to Kelly Mayfield Russell and is a devoted father to three boys. He is an active member and Deacon at the Aliceville First Baptist Church.
If elected, Russell aims to bring his extensive experience and dedication to the position of District Judge, serving the citizens of Pickens County with integrity and a commitment to upholding the law.
