ETOWAH COUNTY, AL—Jesse Battles, a lifelong resident, local business owner, and farmer, has declared his candidacy for the Alabama State Senate, aiming to challenge incumbent Andrew Jones in the Republican primary scheduled for May 19, 2026. Battles announced his run on Facebook, revealing that community encouragement has driven him to address concerns regarding the current representation in the district.
A self-identified conservative, Battles is dedicated to championing "Alabama values," focusing on significant issues such as social reform, veterans’ support, education improvements, and economic development. He has voiced strong opposition to Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, aligning his platform with the views of former President Donald Trump.
Battles has criticized Jones’s voting record, alleging that the incumbent has backed legislation harmful to local businesses and essential services. He cited examples where Jones sponsored bills that negatively impacted a local employer and centralized veteran representation in Montgomery, adding that Jones’s proposed tax changes threatened public safety funding at the local level.
To revitalize Northeast Alabama, Battles plans to collaborate with local officials to attract new industries and invest in critical infrastructure projects—such as the extension of I-759 and a new bridge in Southside—while also supporting local agriculture and law enforcement. He aims to tackle inflation and trade concerns affecting farmers and consumers alike.
