Alabama Crimson Tide fans were left disappointed as 2025 linebacker Myles Johnson announced his decommitment from the program. Johnson had been committed to play for the Tide since October 2023, but has now decided to explore other options. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound recruit from Brewton, AL is now projected to commit to the Florida Gators instead. This move makes sense for both Johnson and Alabama, as playing time was likely to be an issue for the in-state recruit with the Crimson Tide already securing commitments from four other linebackers for their 2025 class.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff are not fazed by Johnson’s decommitment, as they currently have the No. 2 recruiting class in the country with commitments from top players like 5-star cornerback Dijon Lee. DeBoer has been dominating the recruiting trail in his first season for the Crimson Tide and a few decommitments won’t deter their overall success.
In addition to Johnson, 4-star athlete Zymear Smith also decommitted from Alabama on the same day, but the program remains strong with their recruiting efforts. Unlike other schools, Alabama can survive a handful of decommitments and continue to attract top talent from around the country. Despite the loss of Johnson and Smith, the Crimson Tide are well-positioned to maintain their status as one of the top programs in college football.
