The Israeli army has confirmed the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in a targeted strike on Beirut. This marks a significant escalation in Israeli actions against Hezbollah leadership, as Israel had previously refrained from targeting senior leaders. Nasrallah had been the leader of the Iran-backed militant group for 32 years and was known for his role in planning and executing terrorist activities. The Israeli military also claimed that several other senior Hezbollah members were killed in the strikes.
Following the announcement, British nationals in Lebanon were urged to leave the country immediately, and Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was reportedly moved to a secure location with heightened security.
The strikes in Beirut resulted in the death of at least 11 civilians and injuries to medical personnel in civil defense centers. Thousands of residents in Beirut fled their homes to escape Israeli attacks, with many seeking refuge in public spaces.
Israel also conducted airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in the Bekaa Valley, targeting buildings where weapons were stored and sites from which rockets were launched into Israel. The Israeli military stated that the airstrikes were part of their ongoing efforts to combat Hezbollah’s terrorist activities. The situation in the region remains tense, with fears of further escalation and civilian casualties.
