Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old man, is being questioned by law enforcement officials in Pennsylvania in connection with the shooting death of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione, who was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, was found with multiple fake IDs at a McDonald’s restaurant. The suspected shooter had traveled from New York City to Pennsylvania, using a fake New Jersey ID with the name “Marc Rosario.”
Thompson was killed on December 4 in front of the New York Hilton Midtown in what police believe was a premeditated, targeted attack. The shooter, wearing a mask, approached Thompson from behind and shot him multiple times before fleeing on foot and later on a bike into Central Park. Investigators found shell casings with the words “deny,” “delay,” and “depose” written on them at the scene.
Law enforcement officials are still investigating the motive behind Thompson’s murder and are looking into Mangione’s possible involvement. The investigation is ongoing, and updates are expected to be released as more information becomes available. Tom Winter, Jonathan Dienst, and Alicia Victoria Lozano are covering the story for NBC News.
