Ingram, Newton, and Tuberville Nominated for College Football Hall of Fame

Press Release: Heisman Winners Highlight 2026 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot

The National Football Foundation has unveiled the ballot for the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame, featuring a stellar lineup of 79 players and nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision, alongside an additional 100 players and 35 coaches from lower division levels. Notable names on the ballot include Heisman Trophy winners Mark Ingram, Cam Newton, and Robert Griffin III, as well as former AP National Player of the Year Ndamukong Suh.

Ingram made history in 2009 as Alabama’s first Heisman winner, rushing for 1,658 yards and 20 touchdowns. Newton followed in 2010, joining an elite club as only the third player in FBS history to achieve 20 passing and 20 rushing touchdowns in a single season. Griffin garnered national attention in 2011 for leading the country in points responsible for and ranking second in total offense. Suh, a dominating presence for Nebraska, became the first defensive lineman to be a Heisman finalist in 15 years, finishing fourth in voting while receiving recognition as the nation’s top player from the AP.

Additional players on the ballot include Iowa’s Brad Banks, Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant, and California’s Marshawn Lynch, among others. Coaches featured include Tommy Tuberville, who led Miami to the 2002 Rose Bowl, and Gary Patterson, TCU’s all-time wins leader.

Moreover, the NFF announced a change in the eligibility criteria for coaching induction. Starting in 2027, the minimum career winning percentage will drop from .600 to .595, making late coach Mike Leach eligible for induction due to his .596 winning percentage. Known for his innovative offensive strategies and upset victories, Leach’s legacy continues to resonate in college football. The Hall of Fame class will be announced in January.
