Hurricane Beryl, a strong Category 2 storm, has made landfall at the popular Mexico tourist resort Tulum with 110mph winds and dangerous storm surge. The National Hurricane Center is forecasting life-threatening conditions in the region, with up to six feet of storm surge and ten inches of rainfall. Mexico’s President has urged tourists and residents to seek shelter and higher ground to stay safe.
Hurricane Beryl has already caused devastation in the Caribbean, killing at least ten people and leaving a path of destruction. Jamaica and Grenada were hit hard, with buildings destroyed and power outages affecting thousands. The United Nations has pledged $4 million in aid for affected countries in the Caribbean.
As Hurricane Beryl approaches the Yucatan Peninsula and Gulf Coast, Mexico’s tourism sector is on high alert. Hotels, resorts, and airports are preparing for the storm, with flight cancellations and evacuations already underway.
