A fire at a hotel in South Korea resulted in seven deaths and 12 injuries, with three in critical condition. The fire started on the eighth floor of the nine-story hotel in Bucheon, near Seoul, and was extinguished in about two hours. Among the deceased were a couple who jumped out of a window onto an air mattress that flipped over upon landing. The building did not have sprinklers, as they were not mandatory when it was built in 2003. Interior Minister Lee Sang-min ordered a full-scale rescue operation, deploying 70 vehicles and 160 firefighters to the scene. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
