Alabama State Soccer Program Slotted Sixth in SWAC Preseason Poll
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama State University’s soccer team has been projected to finish sixth in the 2025 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Preseason Poll, as announced recently. The Hornets garnered a total of 76 points in the rankings, receiving one first-place vote attributed to the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.
Defending champion Southern University emerged as the top pick, amassing 108 points along with seven first-place votes. Texas Southern followed closely in second place with 102 points and four first-place votes. Grambling State secured third place with 101 points, while Jackson State and Alabama A&M rounded out the top five with 90 points (two first-place votes) and 76 points (one first-place vote), respectively.
Alabama State’s upcoming competition features Prairie View A&M in sixth with 53 points, followed by Alcorn State (43 points), Mississippi Valley State (39 points, one first-place vote), and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (30 points).
The Hornets will be under the guidance of first-year head coach Alicia Wilson as they prepare for the upcoming season. The 2025 campaign kicks off on Thursday, August 14, when Alabama State hosts the University of Mobile at 11 a.m.
With a robust roster and new leadership, the Hornets aim to exceed expectations this season and challenge for a higher spot in the standings. As the team into the season, fans are hopeful for an exciting year ahead.
