Hoover High School’s boys’ basketball team completed a historic undefeated season, finishing 35-0 and winning their third straight 7A championship. Led by coach Scott Ware, the team’s pursuit of perfection was exemplified by senior Austin Dudley, who went from being told not to shoot to becoming a key player. The Bucs’ 45th straight win showcased their resilience in a close game against Florence, ultimately coming out on top with a 66-56 victory.
The win, marked by a fiery fourth quarter, highlighted the team’s camaraderie and determination to succeed both on and off the court. Tournament MVP DeWayne Brown’s double-double performance, along with contributions from Salim London and others, solidified Hoover’s place in history. Despite Florence’s valiant effort, Hoover’s dominance and teamwork prevailed.
Florence coach Dylan Burleson praised his team’s mental fortitude and trust in each other throughout the season, noting their belief in reaching the state title game. While the loss was tough, Burleson commended his players for leaving it all on the court and coming together as a team.
