Mayor Phil Segraves Announces Candidacy for Alabama House District 17
HALEYVILLE, AL — Mayor Phil Segraves has officially announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Alabama House District 17, which encompasses Marion and Lamar counties and the city of Haleyville. Segraves expressed enthusiasm for continuing his work aimed at stimulating the economy in northwest Alabama.
“I’m excited to continue my work to grow the economy,” Segraves stated. “I’ve dedicated my career to attracting investment, and I will keep advocating for good-paying jobs and economic development across Marion, Lamar counties, and Haleyville.”
Having served five terms as mayor of Guin, Segraves has built a solid political foundation beginning on the Guin City Council. His service includes various local and regional boards, such as the Guin Park and Recreation Board and the Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments (NACOLG). Additionally, he previously held the position of president of the Alabama League of Municipalities.
As a potential member of the Alabama Legislature, he aims to prioritize rural economic development and ensure adequate funding for educational institutions, from K-12 to technical schools. “I promise voters that I will uphold conservative principles and work tirelessly to maintain low taxes,” he assured constituents.
Segraves is credited with leading initiatives that extended Guin’s city limits to Interstate 22. His efforts facilitated the establishment of essential infrastructure and attracted businesses, including a 101-room Holiday Inn that created 54 new jobs. Moreover, he partnered with regional officials to launch the first electric vehicle supercharging station on I-22, enhancing travel for visitors.
The Republican primary for the House District 17 seat is set for May 19, 2026.
