Group of dogs fatally attacks man in New York backyard

In Albany, New York, a man named James Provost, 59, was fatally attacked by several mixed-breed pit bulls in a backyard. The incident occurred when up to nine dogs attacked Provost, leading to his death. The victim’s presence in the yard next to where the dogs lived remains unknown. An officer shot and killed one of the dogs, causing the others to disperse. The remaining dogs were corralled by the dog’s caretaker upon arrival.
Police found 24 pit bulls at the residence, including 15 puppies, and took them to the humane society. Authorities are working with the district attorney’s office to determine potential criminal charges. The fate of the dogs, some of which are unlicensed, will be decided by another authority. The reason for the large number of dogs on the property and how they entered the neighboring yard remains unclear.
A previous search warrant was executed at the home due to suspected drug activity, resulting in five to seven dogs being turned over to the humane society. The results of that investigation were not disclosed. As the case continues to be investigated, a decision will be made on whether the remaining dogs will be released or euthanized.
