Governor Ivey Calls Special Election for Alabama House District 12
Montgomery, AL – Governor Kay Ivey has officially proclaimed special election dates for Alabama’s House District 12, following the recent resignation of Representative Corey Harbison on April 15, 2025.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ivey announced that the special primary election will take place on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. If no candidate secures a majority, a special primary runoff is scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025. The special general election will follow on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
“Representative Corey Harbison has been a pleasure to work with and served the people of District 12 well. I thank him for his continued service to our state,” said Ivey. She further emphasized the significance of the upcoming election, urging residents to engage and vote, stating, “This special election is an important opportunity to help shape the future of your community.”
The window for candidates to qualify with major political parties will close on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 5 p.m. In contrast, independent candidates and those from minor parties have until the date of the special primary election, July 15, 2025, at 5 p.m. to file.
House District 12 encompasses portions of Cullman County, and the election is expected to attract significant attention as the community prepares to select their new representative.
