Georgia Governor Brian Kemp embarks on his sixth international trip to South Korea

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is embarking on his sixth overseas trip as governor, traveling to South Korea for a 10-day visit. The purpose of his trip is to meet with South Korean businesses that currently operate in Georgia or are considering opening locations there. The 15-person delegation accompanying him includes lawmakers and state economic recruiters who will host a reception in conjunction with Hyundai Motor Group.

During his trip, Kemp will hold meetings with LG Group, SK Group, Hanwha Qcells, and CJ Foodville, businesses with significant investments in Georgia. LG Group is building an electric vehicle battery plant near Savannah, SK Group owns a battery plant in Commerce, Hanwha Qcells owns solar panel plants in Dalton and Cartersville, and CJ Foodville is building a bakery in Gainesville.

Kemp’s previous overseas trips as governor include visits to Germany, Israel, France, and the nation of Georgia, as well as attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. In 2019, he met with South Korea’s then-Prime Minister and Hyundai Motor Group officials before the announcement of the Ellabell facility.

The cost of the trip to taxpayers is not immediately available. The visit to South Korea will focus on strengthening economic partnerships and promoting further investment in Georgia, showcasing the state as a desirable location for international businesses to operate.
