Alabama Golf Achieves Outstanding Milestone with Four Players Qualifying for 2025 U.S. Amateur
TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Alabama men’s golf team celebrated a significant achievement on Monday as freshman William Jennings qualified for the prestigious 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship. Jennings’ impressive 3-under-par performance secured him a spot alongside three fellow Crimson Tide teammates: Luke Powell, Jonathan Griz, and Nick Gross, marking a historic moment as they become four participants from the same program in a major amateur golf tournament.
The U.S. Amateur, established in 1895 and conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA), has been a launching pad for legendary golfers. Icons like Bobby Jones, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer showcased their talents in this tournament, with Jones winning five titles between 1924 and 1930 and Woods famously winning three consecutive championships from 1994 to 1996.
Alabama’s golf program boasts a rich history, having produced over 30 players who qualified for the U.S. Amateur. It is also notable for its two champions: Jerry Pate (1974) and Nick Dunlap, who triumphed in the 123rd U.S. Amateur in 2023.
The upcoming 125th U.S. Amateur will take place from August 11 to 17, 2025, at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California, featuring stroke play hosted at the Ocean course as well.
