Florida State Seminoles Advance to Super Regional with Thrilling Comeback Victory
TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Florida State Seminoles have earned a place in the Super Regionals after a dramatic 5-2 victory over Mississippi State on Sunday, clinching the Tallahassee Regional and concluding MSU’s 2025 season.
Trailing for most of the game, the Seminoles found their momentum in the seventh inning. Mississippi State led 2-0 until FSU’s Cal Fisher electrified the crowd with a two-run home run, leveling the score and injecting life into the team.
The momentum continued when FSU seized the lead in the eighth inning, scoring three runs. Max Williams, stepping up in a critical moment, broke the tie with a key hit after the bases were loaded, solidifying the Seminoles’ advantage.
Wes Mendes was instrumental on the mound, throwing a career-high eight innings. The winning pitcher, Mendes, limited MSU to just two earned runs while striking out nine batters, showcasing dominance throughout the game.
Florida State’s head coach Link Jarrett was notably absent during the crucial comeback, having been ejected in the second inning. Tensions ran high, with both a Mississippi State batter and an assistant also getting tossed in the ninth for confronting the umpire.
This victory marks Florida State’s 19th trip to the Super Regionals, the most for any college baseball program. The team will now prepare for the Super Regional match-up against the winner of the Corvallis Regional, hosted by No. 8 national seed, Oregon State.
As anticipation builds for Florida State’s next challenge on the Road to Omaha, fans are eager to see if the Seminoles can continue their successful postseason run.
