Five years after the devastating fire, Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris celebrates its grand reopening and rises from the ashes

Ulrich will knock three times on the door of Notre-Dame with a staff made from charred wood salvaged from the fire-ravaged roof, met with rising choir song and the thunderous organ responding to his invocation. The cathedral has undergone restoration with a new altar, golden cross, fire doors, and sprinklers installed. The crown of thorns is now displayed in a sparkling reliquary. Mayor Ariel Weil stated that a new chapter is beginning for the historic building, closing the chapter on the fire that devastated it. Emily MacKinnon, a Notre-Dame superfan, expressed gratitude for the restoration after the heartbreak of watching the fire destroy part of the cathedral. She fell in love with Notre-Dame as a child, writing school projects about it and collecting memorabilia. MacKinnon now runs her own tour company around the cathedral and plans to attend the opening ceremony of the restored Notre-Dame. She considers Notre-Dame to be a significant part of her life and is grateful for its restoration after the devastating fire.
