A fire at a hotel resort construction site in Busan, South Korea has resulted in the death of six people. The fire agency in Busan reported that a helicopter was used to rescue 14 individuals who were trapped on the rooftop of the building. Around 100 people were evacuated from the construction site, which consisted of three buildings spanning 12 stories above ground and three below. It was reported that 25 people sustained light injuries, some due to smoke inhalation.
The fire is believed to have started in insulation material near an indoor swimming pool area on the first floor of one of the buildings. South Korea’s Acting President Choi Sang-mok has ordered all available resources to be used in order to extinguish the fire. The construction site was a sprawling area where work was ongoing, leading to the quick spread of the fire.
The incident has raised concerns about safety measures at construction sites in South Korea and the need for better emergency response capabilities. The tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring proper safety protocols are in place to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
