Michigan-based Cargill Kitchen Solutions has issued a recall of over 200,000 pounds of liquid egg products, including Egg Beaters and Bob Evans Better n’ Eggs, due to potential contamination with bleach. The products were produced on March 12 and March 13 and sold in various states across the U.S. There is a possibility that the products were sold nationwide.
The affected products include Egg Beaters Original Liquid Egg Substitute, Egg Beaters Cage-free Original Liquid Egg Substitute, Egg Beaters Cage-free Original Frozen Egg Substitute, and Bob Evans Better’n Eggs Made with Real Egg Whites. The use-by dates for these products range from August 10, 2025, to March 07, 2026.
Despite the discovery of potential contamination, the risk of using the products was deemed negligible, and the recall was classified as a lower Class III designation. Consumers who purchased these products are advised to discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
The issue was brought to light through a tip about potential contamination, prompting an investigation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. The agency warns that the recalled products may still be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers, so they should take precautions to ensure they are not consumed.
