Expansion of production at Conecuh Sausage Co. funded by $400,000 government grant

Conecuh Sausage Co. in Evergreen has received an additional $400,000 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to continue work on a second manufacturing plant. Governor Kay Ivey announced the Community Development Block Grant, which will be administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA). The new 102,000-square-foot plant in Andalusia is being built to meet growing market demand and is expected to employ 50 people.

The federal funding will be used to provide sewer services and public water to the $49 million production facility and office complex. The city of Andalusia is contributing $80,000 in local funds for the project and has allocated an adjacent 15 acres for a 20-unit apartment complex to house employees during training. Future plans include a retail gift shop similar to the one at the Evergreen plant, creating an additional 30 to 50 jobs in the area.

Kenneth Boswell, ADECA Director, stated that Conecuh Sausage has become an Alabama food icon and ADECA is proud to be a part of the expansion project in Andalusia. Governor Ivey expressed excitement at the company’s success and growth, creating jobs in Alabama. Conecuh Sausage is recognized throughout the Southeast and as far north as the Canadian border. The company’s expansion is a significant development for the local economy and will further solidify its position as a popular Alabama food landmark.
