Rivalry weekend in college football certainly did not disappoint this year, with the Iron Bowl between Auburn and Alabama drawing a whopping 7.4 million viewers, according to ESPN PR. The intense matchup ended with Alabama securing a 28-14 win over Auburn, with quarterback Jalen Milroe putting on an impressive performance.
Alabama’s victory over their rivals was sweeter due to pregame comments made by Auburn linebacker Demarcus Riddick, which the Crimson Tide used as motivation. Milroe threw for 256 passing yards, rushed for 104 yards, and scored three touchdowns, leaving his mark on Iron Bowl history. Germie Bernard also shined for Alabama with seven catches for 111 yards.
On the other side, Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne put up a good fight, completing 24 of 41 passes for 301 yards, with KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Cam Coleman standing out as key receivers. Despite the Tide’s four turnovers, Auburn fell short and dropped to 5-7 overall for the season, while Alabama improved to 9-3.
Alabama is now ranked No. 11 in the College Football Playoff Rankings, with the possibility of a spot in the 12-team playoff on the horizon.
