Elon Musk files lawsuit against OpenAI for prioritizing profits over public benefit

Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing the AI company behind ChatGPT of prioritizing profits over the benefit of humanity. Musk, who was an early investor in OpenAI and co-chaired its board, claims that CEO Sam Altman and others intentionally deceived him by not adhering to the original goal of developing AI technology for the public good. The lawsuit alleges that Musk was misled into thinking that OpenAI would remain a nonprofit organization when in fact, it was seeking to become a for-profit company. OpenAI, for its part, released emails showing Musk’s previous support for making the company a for-profit entity. Musk’s lawsuit claims that he and OpenAI’s original mission were betrayed by Altman and his associates, describing the deception as being of “Shakespearean proportions”. This lawsuit comes after Musk dropped a previous legal action against OpenAI in June, the reasons for which were not disclosed. OpenAI has stated that Musk’s prior emails speak for themselves, suggesting that there may have been conflicting information regarding the company’s intentions. With this new lawsuit, Musk is seeking to hold OpenAI accountable for allegedly straying from its original goals of developing AI technology for the greater good.
