Declining Approval Ratings for President Trump as He Nears 100 Days in Second Term
As President Donald Trump approaches the 100-day milestone of his second term, new polls reveal a significant drop in approval ratings, even in staunchly supportive regions like Alabama. A recent Economist/YouGov poll indicates Trump’s approval has plummeted from 50% at the beginning of his term to just 43%, yielding a concerning net approval rating of -11%.
Among the most troubling findings is a drastic decline in favorability among young Americans aged 18 to 25, where Trump’s net approval rating collapsed from +5 to an alarming -20—a staggering 25-point shift. Similar declines are noted across other age demographics: 30 to 44-year-olds have seen a drop from -6 to -15, while those aged 45 to 64 shifted from +12 to -4. Even seniors, who have historically supported Trump, have seen a decrease, moving from -4 to -6.
In Alabama, where Trump previously enjoyed a 59% approval rating, he now sits at 58%, reflecting the trend of declining popularity. Nationally, other surveys corroborate these findings, with an ABC News/Washington Post poll showing a disapproval rate of 55%, and CNN reporting a 57% disapproval rate.
Despite these setbacks, Trump continues to voice his grievances with polls, recently taking to his social media platform to criticize the polling methods of Fox News and its owner, Rupert Murdoch. Notably, only 62% of respondents expressed a desire for Trump to succeed—the lowest rate for any president in two decades.
This marks the lowest approval rating for a president entering their first 100 days in 20 years, particularly when compared to predecessors like Joe Biden and Barack Obama, who recorded 54% and 62% respectively. As the 100-day mark arrives, the path ahead for Trump appears fraught with challenges.
