Alabama GOP Voters Prioritize Economic Issues Ahead of 2026 Elections

POINT CLEAR, Ala. — As Alabama gears up for the 2026 primary elections, recent polling reveals that Republican voters are predominantly concerned about economic issues, particularly inflation, cost of living, taxes, government spending, and illegal immigration. These findings were presented by pollster Mitchell Brown at the Business Council of Alabama’s annual Government Affairs Conference, attended by around 850 key stakeholders, including elected officials and business leaders.

According to the poll, nearly 80% of Republican primary voters identified their top issues as economic, with a significant 59% preferring lawmakers to focus on economic matters over cultural issues. Brown emphasized that many voters are motivated by a desire for a better economic future for their families, suggesting that economic policy promises to be pivotal in securing votes.

In addition to key economic concerns, the poll also showed U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville’s strong standing as Alabama’s prospective gubernatorial candidate, boasting a 69% favorable rating. In terms of the Senate race to succeed Tuberville, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall leads with 24% support, while Congressman Barry Moore and Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl are also in the mix, although the majority (51.4%) remain undecided.

Support for small- and medium-sized businesses is lukewarm, with less than 10% of voters deeming the state “very supportive.” Furthermore, former President Donald Trump enjoys strong favorability among GOP voters in Alabama, with nearly 80% supporting him.

Brown’s analysis points to an enduring loyalty toward Trump, suggesting that negative press will unlikely sway his dedicated base. With economic issues taking center stage, Republican candidates may need to align their platforms to effectively resonate with voters in the upcoming elections.
