A large family in Taylorsville, Southern Mississippi, is spending their Saturday in a “safe room” made of cinder blocks as the area faces tornadic storms. The family, led by Stacy Bryant Hawkins, experienced a likely tornado hit their town, with Hawkins describing the roaring sound of the storm passing by their back pasture. Although their house had no damage, Hawkins is concerned for her family’s safety, particularly for her 84-year-old mother who refused to leave her home. The family decided to build a safe room in their home due to the frequent tornadoes in Smith County. Currently, Hawkins and her family are taking refuge in the safe room with other family members and pets. Unfortunately, Hawkins’ brother-in-law’s home took a direct hit from the storm, causing a tree to fall into their master bedroom. Hawkins is worried about their situation and hopes for the best. The family is keeping a close eye on the weather and remains prepared for any further storms that may come their way.
