Concern over Benson’s Mis-Usage at Alabama – Athlon Sports

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is off to an impressive start in his first season as the starter, leading the Crimson Tide to a 4-0 record. However, there is growing concern over the mis-usage of one of Young’s top weapons, tight end Cameron Latu.

Latu, who has been a standout performer for Alabama in the early part of the season, has mainly been used as a blocker, rather than as a receiving threat. This has raised questions about offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien’s playcalling and utilization of Latu’s talents.

According to Athlon Sports, Latu has shown great potential as a pass-catcher, with his size and athleticism making him a dangerous target for Young. However, he has only been targeted 10 times in the first four games, despite his ability to make big plays in the passing game.

Former Alabama tight end O.J. Howard weighed in on the situation, expressing his belief that Latu should be more involved in the passing game. He pointed out that Latu has the skill set to create mismatches against defenses and should be utilized more effectively by the coaching staff.

With Alabama facing tough matchups in the coming weeks, including games against SEC rivals Texas A&M and LSU, it will be crucial for the Crimson Tide to maximize their offensive weapons. Utilizing Latu as a receiving threat could provide Young with another dangerous weapon in the passing game and help keep opposing defenses off balance.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on how O’Brien and head coach Nick Saban choose to utilize Latu in the Alabama offense. If they can unlock his full potential as a pass-catcher, it could provide a significant boost to an already potent Crimson Tide offense.
