Alabama Legislature Passes Comprehensive Hemp Legislation Amid Controversy
Last week, the Alabama Legislature passed HB445, marking the state’s first comprehensive regulation of hemp products since the federal farm bill legalized hemp-derived cannabis in 2018. The legislation comes after intense negotiations between two opposing factions: the hemp industry, which opposed new regulations, and abolitionists pushing for a complete ban on hemp products.

They argue that the legislation aims to address rising concerns about youth exposure to hemp products, having consulted with parents, educators, and health professionals.
