Cobb County Emergency 911 Enhances Technology to Meet NG911 Standards

Cobb County Advances Emergency Response with Next Generation 911 Technology

Cobb County has announced significant advancements in its emergency response capabilities following the successful transition to the Next Generation 911 (NG911) standard. The upgrades, initiated by the Department of Emergency Communications (DEC), include the implementation of AT&T’s Emergency Services Internet-Protocol Network (ESInet) and the Carbyne APEX call-handling platform.

One of the standout features of these upgrades allows callers to stream live video directly to 911 operators from the scene of an incident, enhancing situational awareness for emergency responders. Additionally, the system now offers real-time translation services for non-English speaking individuals, ensuring vital communication during emergencies.

Melissa Alterio, Director of the Cobb County DEC, hailed the upgrades as a major enhancement to community service. "By embracing Next Generation 911 and the Carbyne APEX platform, we’re equipping our team with the tools they need to respond faster, smarter, and more effectively," she stated.

The initiative marks a critical shift from the outdated analog infrastructure that has served for decades to a digital system that supports voice, images, texts, and videos—providing a more robust emergency communication network. This advanced technology aims to improve the reliability of 911 services amid increasing call volumes, natural disasters, and efficiently navigate through caller location data.

According to the National 911 Program, NG911 facilitates a seamless connection between the public and emergency services, ultimately contributing to an enhanced public safety infrastructure. These upgrades promise to make emergency responses faster, smarter, and more reliable for Cobb County residents.
