Coast-to-coast storm brings rain and snow, causing Thanksgiving travel chaos.

With Thanksgiving holiday travel in full swing, a storm is tracking from the Rockies to the Midwest and Northeast, bringing rain and snow which will impact flights and roads. Nearly 3 million people were expected to be screened by the TSA, and record-breaking numbers were expected to travel by car this year. The storm, which started in the Rockies, will move eastward throughout Wednesday and intensify in the Midwest and Northeast on Thanksgiving Day. Flight delays and cancellations were reported across the U.S., with many airports experiencing delays due to snow and ice. Road travelers were also affected by rain in certain areas.

The storm is forecast to bring rain to the I-95 corridor on Thanksgiving Day with heavy snow expected in the interior Northeast and New England. Windy conditions could lead to power outages in some areas. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City will go on rain or shine, with windy conditions potentially affecting the balloons. As the storm moves out of the New England area on Friday, travel conditions are expected to return to normal. Cold temperatures and snow will continue in the northern Plains and upper Midwest through Sunday. Authorities are warning travelers to be cautious of vehicle theft in airport parking lots, as incidents of car thefts have been reported at major airports. Additional security measures are being implemented to prevent future thefts.
