Chicago rap star Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, has been arrested in South Florida in connection to a murder-for-hire scheme. The 32-year-old musician, known for his Grammy Award-winning music, is being held at Broward County Main Jail on behalf of the U.S Marshal’s Service, pending charges of murder-for-hire. Banks was taken into custody alongside five others, all with ties to hip-hop collective “Only the Family,” in relation to the 2022 slaying of Georgia rapper Quando Rondo’s cousin.
The charges stem from a plot aimed at Quando Rondo, believed to be involved in the 2020 death of rapper King Von, an affiliate of “OTF” and close friend of Durk. The defendants were allegedly promised money and music opportunities in exchange for committing the murder.
This arrest follows a recent lawsuit linking Lil Durk and King Von to the gang-related murder of rapper FBG Duck in Chicago. The lawsuit accused “OTF” of functioning as a criminal enterprise. Despite these legal issues, Banks was recently honored in Cook County, Illinois, for his efforts to uplift underserved communities through his Neighborhood Heroes Foundation.
Banks took to social media to celebrate the clearing of his criminal record, expressing gratitude for a second chance at life. His arrest in Florida comes as a surprising development for fans and followers of the rapper’s music.
