Charles Kushner chosen by Trump as ambassador to France

President-elect Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate Charles Kushner, a real estate developer and father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France. Trump praised Charles as a business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker who will represent the country’s interests effectively. He also mentioned Jared Kushner’s work during his first administration, particularly in Operation Warp Speed, Criminal Justice Reform, and the Abraham Accords.

Charles Kushner had previously been sentenced to two years in prison in 2005 for tax evasion, witness tampering, and illegal campaign donations. He was prosecuted by Chris Christie, who later became governor of New Jersey and a major Trump opponent in the 2016 and 2024 Republican primaries. Christie had called the Kushner case “loathsome” and “disgusting” while serving as governor.

In 2020, Trump pardoned Charles Kushner, along with other individuals, after losing his re-election bid. The announcement of Charles Kushner’s nomination as ambassador to France also included congratulations to his wife, children, and grandchildren. Trump highlighted the importance of strengthening America’s partnership with France, one of its oldest allies, under the leadership of Charles and Jared Kushner.
