After going missing for over five weeks, 20-year-old Canadian camper Sam Benastick was found safe in the Northern Rockies. He flagged down two people headed to work at Redfern Lake trail in state-run Redfern-Keily Park who recognized him as the subject of a missing person’s search and took him to a hospital to get checked out. Benastick had camped in his car and on a mountainside before setting up a campsite in a dry creek bed and making his way to the trail where he was found. Kamloops Search and Rescue, as well as other search and rescue teams and local volunteers, participated in the search. Benastick was reported missing by family on October 19 after not returning from a camping trip and had last checked in on October 8. The successful outcome of finding Benastick alive after so much time missing was considered an outstanding result. Redfern-Keily Park, where Benastick was found, is located about 561 miles north of Vancouver and 486 miles north of Kamloops.
