BCA Exceeds Fundraising Goals, Aims for $5 Million in 2026 Election Cycle
POINT CLEAR, Ala. — The Business Council of Alabama (BCA) has successfully surpassed its initial fundraising goal of $4 million, setting its sights on an ambitious $5 million target for the upcoming 2026 election cycle. This effort is focused on recruiting and supporting pro-business candidates across the state.
At the annual Government Affairs Conference, BCA’s political action committee chair, Gary Smith, announced that Progress PAC has raised approximately $4.2 million, positioning the organization as a significant force in the upcoming elections. The BCA is dedicated to electing leaders who advocate for free enterprise, innovation, and accountability.
The 2026 election is pivotal, with several key offices—including the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and ag commissioner—opening up due to term limits. The legislative landscape is also changing, as all 140 members of the Legislature may seek reelection.
“We want to be more intentional about supporting our friends, and those who aren’t our friends, we don’t intend to support them,” Smith commented, emphasizing the strategic approach to candidate endorsements.
Progress PAC has already begun to make contributions, including a $100,000 donation to former Alabama Supreme Court Associate Justice Jay Mitchell’s campaign for attorney general. The race is heating up as Mitchell faces Katherine Robertson, the current attorney general’s chief counsel.
In addition to Mitchell, Progress PAC has endorsed key figures including House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter and Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger, each receiving $25,000. Notably, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville and candidate John Roberts are also on the PAC’s early endorsement list.
The BCA’s proactive stance underscores its commitment to fostering a pro-business environment in Alabama as the 2026 election approaches.
