Alabama House GOP Unveils 2025 Legislative Agenda with Focus on Conservative Values
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama House Republican Caucus officially launched its 2025 policy agenda on Monday, spotlighting initiatives aimed at improving labor participation, enhancing public safety, and maintaining strong election security laws. With a supermajority in the Legislature, the caucus established eight key priorities, developed by a dedicated committee co-chaired by Representatives Kerry Underwood and James Lomax.
The agenda, named ‘Alabama Values,’ encompasses a range of conservative principles, including deterring illegal immigration, bolstering election security, expanding education programs, and supporting pro-life measures. "Our caucus members stand unanimous in support of this agenda," stated House Majority Leader Scott Stadthagen. The emphasis on broad principles over specific legislation reflects the strong proposals presented by Republican members.
Key initiatives anticipated in the upcoming session include legislation aimed at combating illegal immigration, supported by Rep. Ben Robbins, who plans to enhance E-Verify compliance amid rising immigrant influxes. Additionally, House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter announced the creation of a legislative package targeting violent crime and focusing on law enforcement retention and community safety.
Amid these priorities, Underwood expressed optimism for bipartisan collaboration, particularly in enhancing public safety, which has historically garnered support from both parties.
In a timely response, the Alabama House Democratic Caucus is set to unveil its own legislative priorities, addressing economic opportunity, healthcare access, education investment, and justice reform. Caucus chair Rep. Barbara Drummond emphasized the importance of tackling urgent issues facing Alabama.
