A Mobile woman is in critical condition after being shot by her husband in an attempted murder-suicide, as reported by the Mobile County Sheriffs. The incident took place on April 12 at 4630 Glenwood Court in Wilmer. Deputies responding to a call from a family member found Maria Caamano injured and her husband, Refugio Caamano-Lopez, dead from a gunshot wound to his forehead. Maria was rushed to the hospital for treatment while Refugio was pronounced dead at the scene.
During interviews with MCSO detectives, a family member recounted hearing Maria screaming and rushing to her aid, only to learn that she had been shot by her husband. The investigation confirmed that Refugio had indeed shot Maria before turning the gun on himself. The tragic event has left Maria in critical condition, fighting for her life while her husband has lost his.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident to determine the exact circumstances that led to this harrowing event.
