Austin Mack Remains Determined in Alabama’s Quarterback Battle
Mobile, Ala. — In the wake of Alabama football’s A-Day spring practice, redshirt sophomore quarterback Austin Mack is making his presence known. Following a recent update from offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, which placed him behind Ty Simpson and true freshman Keelon Russell in the quarterback competition, Mack posted an inspiring message on Instagram: "All in on me… Keep going 10." His teammates quickly rallied around him with encouraging comments, showcasing the strong support within the team.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer, who followed Mack from Washington to Alabama, expressed confidence in his abilities during a fundraising event for Team Focus. He noted Mack’s determination and work ethic, stating, "Austin will be exactly that. He’s one of the hardest workers on the football team." DeBoer is eager to foster a competitive environment this summer for all quarterbacks, including Mack, who is the only contender with a collegiate touchdown under his belt.
Despite facing challenges during the A-Day scrimmage, where he struggled with consistency and recorded multiple interceptions, Mack’s development has not gone unnoticed. Grubb highlighted the “huge strides” Mack has made in understanding the offensive system, acknowledging his improvements in managing the football.
As the Crimson Tide gears up for a September 30 opener against Florida State, Mack’s determination suggests he will continue to fight for playing time. With the team rallying behind him, the upcoming season promises to be a competitive one.
